Toto Wolff Set to Divest Stake Pricing Mercedes F1 at £4.6 Billion

Team Principal Wolff has led Mercedes to historic achievements in F1

Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff is engaged in advanced talks to offload a portion of his ownership stake in the Mercedes F1 outfit.

This transaction estimates Mercedes at £4.6 billion – an unprecedented figure for an F1 team – after McLaren were valued at £3.5 billion in a change of ownership structure last September.

The Austrian executive, who holds one-third of Mercedes F1, would sell a shareholding in the region of five percent.

The 53-year-old would stay on as team principal and chief executive officer if the sale goes through.

Shareholder Breakdown

The other shareholders in Mercedes F1 are Mercedes-Benz and chemicals giant Ineos, who both hold one-third of the company.

An official representative said: "We are providing no comment on the matter. The management structure of Mercedes F1 will remain unchanged, and each shareholder are dedicated to the ongoing success of the brand in F1."

Financial Increase

This arrangement would represent a substantial rise in value of Mercedes F1 since Ineos acquired its share for £208 million in 2022.

The rise demonstrates the expansion in market values of Formula 1 outfits recently as a consequence of the growing popularity of the sport globally.

This trend was evident with the success of the F1 movie featuring Brad Pitt, which debuted last summer and has grossed over $630m (£458m) at cinemas worldwide.

It is Pitt's most successful film and the most successful sports film to date.

Current Standings

Mercedes are second in the team standings, behind McLaren Racing, with three races remaining in the current championship.

Mercedes' primary racer George Russell has won two of the 21 races this year and is in fourth place in the drivers' championship behind McLaren's Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, and Red Bull Racing's Max Verstappen.

The team won a unprecedented eight consecutive constructors' championships and seven driver championships, six won by Lewis Hamilton and one for Nico Rosberg, from 2014 and 2021.
